Pipeline Inspection

Britannia Oil's comprehensive range of pipeline inspections is offered on a one-off troubleshooting basis or as part of wider project management services.

Pipeline Inspection

We provide pipeline inspection techniques that detect faults with pinpoint accuracy, giving our clients the chance to achieve optimum performance through subsequent maintenance.

We offer internal and external inspection solutions for small and large diameter pipes, allowing customers to identify all possible defects.

Pipeline Inspection solutions, capabilities and services include:

Planning & Preparation of Inspection Programs

On-site visits, technical questionnaire (design parameters, operating parameters, pipeline history, etc.)

Data gathering and review of collected data.

Assessment of the pipeline system and suitability for in-line inspection or other inspection methods.

Recommendations to customer.

Pipeline Cleaning Prior To In-line Inspections

Pipelines - no matter what they transport - must have clean inner surface and be in good operating condition to work efficiently and cost effectively.

A clean pipeline is a precondition to work efficiently for high quality in-line inspection results.

We use the most effective and efficient pipeline cleaning tools to perform cleaning services.

The combination of these tools with the skills and experience of our field personnel allows us to provide our customers with the best possible advice and service.

Each cleaning tool is designed to achieve optimal cleaning results in all possible circumstances  and pipeline conditions.

All tools remove any kind of heavy debris, black powder, paraffin or scale deposits.

In-Line Inspection

We apply a complete range of methods for high resolution and quality defect identification (highly accurate pipe geometry, location and leak detection tools, etc).

Geometry Inspection

Checking pipeline construction quality by the use of Electronic Geometry Tools.

Locating undetected third-party damage.

Confirming free passage for any other tool.

XYZ Mapping

Identifying the three-dimensional geographical pipeline coordinates.

The inner geometry of the pipeline is monitored simultaneously.

Metal Loss & Corrosion Detection

We use the most sensitive metal loss inspection tools available.

Tools are based on Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) technology, designed to detect and accurately size pipe wall irregularities.

Axial Flow Detection

We use Transverse Flux Technology which induces the magnetic field in transverse direction in order to detect narrow longitudinal defects.

We can combine the two methods, Corrosion Detection and Axial Flow Detection in order to detect and measure all possible pipeline features. Tools size can cover from 3” to more than 56” for crack detection and Axial Flow Detection.

Crack & Coating Inspection

Detection of pipeline deterioration by stress corrosion cracking (SCC).

We use ultrasonic inspection tools based on Electro Magnetic Acoustic Transducer technology which is especially designed for gas pipelines inspection.

Characteristic features for the crack detection tool are:

Dry coupled ultrasonic technology

Inspection of gas and liquid lines

High Resolution EMAT sensor (typically 25 mm resolution in circumference)

Superior SCC sensitivity

Combined In-line Inspection

We use combined In-Line Inspection technology in order to allow our customers to perform multiple inspections in one run (e.g. Corrosion Detection Tool can be combined with the Extended Geometry Tool (includes XYZ Mapping) or the Ultrasonic Corrosion Detection Tool to perform multiple inspections in one run).

Optical Inspection

Use of high quality camera with it’s own lighting support into a robust pipeline cleaning tool.

Clear visualisation of the inside of pipelines.

The optical inspection can investigate the pipeline for:

Features (e.g. dents)

Cleanliness (e.g. dust degree)

Condition of pipeline installations (e.g. open valves, valve seals, guiding bars, etc.)

Quality of repairs to the pipeline

Presence of water

Leak Detection

Use of Leak Detection Pigs (equipped with on board electronics to record flow rate and direction).

Hydrostatic Testing and Commissioning

Customised solutions for Hydrostatic Testing and Commissioning.

All our equipment is accompanied by the appropriate calibration certificates and operational instructions.

Data Interpretation

The inspection activities provide a clear picture of the pipeline condition. Our data services consist in using the best and appropriate tools and capabilities for comprehensive viewing, analysis and interpretation of the inspection results.
Use of comprehensive and interactive client software that summarises the inspection survey of a pipeline.
Our Pipeline data management system provides easy data integration, viewing, reporting and analysis capabilities.

The pipeline data management software consists of three main components which are:

Reporting Module
Maps Module
3D Pipe Module

An extra set of supporting tools such as Line Manager, Back up Manager and Security is also provided.

Reporting

Provides comprehensive information on the results of an inspection run

Assists in planning maintenance and repair activities

Full and fast access to the database and raw inspection data

Presentation on all inspection results using images

Maps

Pipeline routes in two dimensions with a map as background
Depiction of the pipeline trajectory in a user-defined colour and boldness.

Depiction of the pipeline’s vertical profile with basic trajectory

Overview map for navigation and depiction of above -and below- ground pipeline sections

Option of scaling the colour of individual pipe sections according to attribute (repair factor, metal loss)

3D Pipe

View on the inspection results in a 3-dimensional animation

Overview map for navigation and depiction of above -and below- ground pipeline sections

Free 3D navigation around the pipeline

Visual inclusion of installations and defects

Administration

This module deals with administration support issues.

Line Manager: Installation, removal and managing of inspected pipelines

Backup Manager: Provision of backup and restore functionality along with the ability to store intermediate results

Security: Security administration of different user-right levels for the user
